This version of Bathtub starts off simple and continues to fade into nothingness.....then BAM....Trey whips out his guitar and plays one of the most amazing guitar solos I've ever hear him play. He slays the ever-living shit out of his axe while somehow masterfully leading the band and the jam.

Absolutely insane. 26 minutes. Long Page-led portion of the jam that never lets up.

Includes The Who's 'The Real Me' embedded in it with one of the smoothest segues that phish has ever done. The Gin jam is also fierce that leads into it.

Live Bait 8 version. Quality Gin that paves the way for Holmdel's giant. Can't go wrong with any Gin this tour.

Deep, cathartic 2.0 version. Second best of 2.0 to the Nassau version. Sign of things to come.

Quickly goes type II and a beautiful back and forth between major and minor emerges -- listen to the band listen to each other. After a gorgeous theme is introduced around 10:35, a hose-laiden peak slowly builds and releases immaculately, using that previous theme as subtle undertones.

This version is just weird. I can't even describe it. The band messes around with the rhythms and melodies and so it is quirky, and then later on it has some very bright, clean, and crisp machine gun trey with soaring notes. Very odd.

While not as expansive or exploratory as other Gins, this one from the late summer '99 tour is an exercise in peaking and repeaking the song. pure blissy, hose with Trey leading the charge.

Absolutely unique take on Gin. Out of the darkness emerges a combination of '97 funk, a dirty little modulating progression, and eventually (somehow) the familiar Bathtub Gin theme. Try not to dance to this one!

Certainly not the best Gin of all time. Not even close to the best Gin of '98, frankly.(7/29, 11/9) But this Gin is so precise and so well put together. They are all 4 just locked IN for the duration. Mike and Page respond so well to Trey aggressive leads. A real driving, propelling version->Piper.

Set 1 opener at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. My all time fav Bathtub Gin. A long, spirited jam, that breaks into a funky groove around min 13. This heavy opener is followed up by a great 'Dirt'. Released as part of the 4-CD 'Veneta' set, which covers both the '97 & '98 shows in Ventura.
